The Buch Suite

The Buch Suite provides gorgeous views of the Amish Farmland. It is spacious, contemporary and versatile, making it perfect for families or groups.

Why the Buch Suite?

The Buch Suite is named after Scott’s great, great grandfather Daniel Buch, who married Lizzie Metzler in the 1880s. They moved onto the farm in the 1890s.  He was a financial wizard and financially backed the Denver and Ephrata Telephone and Telegraph Company when it was founded.  He also owned multiple farms and functioned as the treasurer for Metzler’s Mennonite Church just up the road. He lived in the Homestead until 1945, when he passed the farm to his bachelor sons, Jacob and Elmer Metzler Buch. They ran the Homestead until 1976.

We were looking for a hotel that could accommodate my husband, me, and our two sons for a funeral to attend in Ephrata when I stumbled across the Hertzog Homestead B&B. Our room was clean and accommodating with a kitchenette and free WiFi. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rural setting is absolutely beautiful. When we returned to the B&B at night, we were greeted with a clean room and fresh baked goods as well as an egg dish to heat up in the microwave the next morning for breakfast. We will stay here again the next time we visit family.

Excellent hospitality in this bed and breakfast where everything has been planned for the comfort of guests. Neat decoration, quality bathroom linen, excellent bedding. Breakfast is taken in the room in China porcelain: everything was ready in the refrigerator of the room when we arrived a little late. Christen is very nice. The prices are reasonable: to recommend +++

Gracious elegance in a bucolic country setting in a real working farm. You couldn’t ask for a better weekend away. Wonderful breakfast prepared daily for eating in your room before heading out. Delicious Amish-style breakfast.

We joined friends who were also staying here. Our suite was in the carriage house, as was theirs. We met the cook while she was baking our snacks and cake for breakfast for the next day. The proprietor, Kristen showed us our suite, which was quite large, lots of space, and modern inside. She explained why we had a dining room table and refrigerator stocked with drinks, fruit and other food. She said she is following a new trend for B&B’s which give you breakfast in your room for you to enjoy on your own schedule. She gave us a brief history of the farm and provided additional reading materials. After we unpacked we went out to explore and meet the chickens. They ran out to greet us but were secure in their large grassy pen. It was so quiet! No road noise. Very relaxing. The queen beds were very comfortable. The next morning we awoke refreshed. We made our own coffee and tea and tried the pumpkin loaf and shoo fly pie. We didn’t feel inclined to heat up the quiche in the microwave. The pumpkin loaf was tasty but I was not a fan of the pie. We put our door key in the drop box and left about 8 am.  I can see this would be ideal for younger couples and friends, especially for a bridal party staying there.

This B&B was incredible. The daily fresh on room breakfast was amazing. The property managers were super friendly, highly knowledgeable about the area. There are plenty of things to do in the area as well. Already planning our next stay here.
