The Hertzog Suite

The Hertzog Suite is our most romantic suite and provides the perfect escape for you and your loved one. Sink into your private garden Jacuzzi underneath the starts or cozy up in queen size the sleigh bed, surrounded by views of the Amish farmland.

Why the Hertzog Suite?

Scott’s father, Kenneth Buch Hertzog, moved onto the homestead in 1976. He was the great, great, great, great grandson of Jacob Metzler, who moved onto the property in 1786. Kenneth farmed the land and also worked as a full-time Excavator for Horst Group Construction company. When he and his wife moved off the farm in 2003, the farm was bought by his son, Scott Hertzog and his wife Kristen. They are your innkeepers and live here till this day. Their son Kiefer, is the ninth generation of this unbroken bloodline to live on the Homestead.

Our stay at the Hertzog Homestead was absolutely delightful! Close enough to all the delight that Lancaster County has to offer, yet located in a little piece of quiet heaven in the outskirts. Loved sitting outside watching the chickens and beautiful sunset, just enjoyed the “peace” and beauty. The room was comfortable, clean, well decorated, felt warm and homey.Love the concept of “private breakfast!”. A complete homemade breakfast (by local Mennonite cook)conveniently stored in our fridge. From quiche fresh from the hens, down to homemade baked goods and freshly made yogurt,to be eaten at our convenience. Can’t wait to book again for our next visit to this lovely Historical, yet updated gem!

My husband and I visited Amish country in Pennsylvania and stayed at the Hertzog Homestead Bed and Breakfast in the Hertzog Suite. We LOVED our stay. The room was wonderful, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast and pastries provided every morning were delicious. This bed and breakfast is located in a rural area and is very quiet and peaceful. We ENJOYED ourselves. I have already shared this gem of a bed breakfast with friends who are planning a trip.

Lovely accommodations, peace and quiet. We were greeted by Taicha who showed us our room and gave us a bit of background on the property. Breakfast was already in the refrigerator and consisted of an individual quiche, yogurt and several home baked items (muffin, coffee cake and mini apple pie) all baked by neighbor Elva. Everything was delicious. It was fun watching the chickens in their nearby coop and the view from the outdoor deck area was of fields. Wonderful!

This was our second visit to the Hertzog Homestead. We stayed in the Hertzog suite both visits. Very quiet and relaxing visit. The room was very clean and comfortable both times. We plan on visiting again soon. We have been to many B&B’s and this is by far the cleanest and most relaxing. Hands up to Scott and Kristen for their efforts. We love sitting on the patio enjoying the peace and quiet, even in 40 degrees.

Very quiet and beautiful location. We stayed in the Hertzog suite. We totally would have used the hot tub but it’s March and we forgot our suits. Very clean and modern. Not the typical bed and breakfast in an old house with squeaky floors and beds. It’s perfect for this location and will provide amenities for years to come. It’s truly a genius idea to bring people into the Amish /Mennonite community all while providing the modern comforts we’re used too. Bed is firm and supportive. Overall- delightful! I will be staying here again!

We went to Hertzog Homestead for an overnight getaway to relax and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was beautiful and clean, the breakfast plentiful and delicious, and we appreciated the attention to little details throughout the room that made it extra special!
