Green Initiatives

After hundreds of years of tilling the land, Hertzog Homestead has developed a deep sense of gratitude for the earth, the environment, and what it has provided for our family through generations. In response, we have implemented many green initiatives all throughout the Homestead in an effort to give back!

Hertzog Homestead is home to a 21 kilowatt solar panel array which powers over 70% of the energy used in our Bed & Breakfast, Event Venue, Gift Shoppe, and Innkeeper’s Residence. Innkeeper, Scott Hertzog, also drives an electric car in an effort to cut down on emissions, and we offer an electric car charging station to our guests as well.

The 23 acres of land surrounding the Bed & Breakfast is part of an agricultural preserve called “Clean and Green,” which ensures that it will remain in farmland for the foreseeable future, as it has been for the past 200 years. The land is rented to local farmers in the area who make a living off of the crops!

We feel it is our responsibility to do what we are able to give back to the environment and create a healthy awareness of the role the earth plays in all of our daily lives.
